Stemke Semi Finalists Named

UPDATE TO ARTICLE:  Homestead’s Sean West was recently named as the winner of the Kevin Stemke Award as Wisconsin’s top kicker.  Congratulations to Sean for putting in the work to realize such a significant accomplishment!

3 Campers on the Top 20 List

The Wisconin Sports Network (WSN) puts out a list of finalists to win the Kevin Stemke Award each year.

Kevin Stemke was a great Green Bay Preble kicker and punter who had a fantastic career as a punter for the Wisconsin Badgers. As a punter, Stemke won the top collegiate award (the Ray Guy Award) in 2000. He was later inducted into the Badger Hall of Fame in 2018.

We had over 120 kickers attend our camps this past summer and honestly, a few more of our campers should be listed here. That said, we’re proud of the six who made the watch list at the start of the season, and the 3 that are now still in the running to be named the Stemke Award winner.

The Stemke Award is given to the top senior high school kicker or punter in the state of Wisconsin, by WSN (The Wisconsin Sports Network). High school coaches submit one of their specialists to WSN if they think he should be considered for the honor.

The award winner is to be named after the first week of WIAA divisional playoffs, which begin tonight!

Watchlist Campers

Danil Roberts / La Crosse Logan 

Danil attended our La Crosse Kickers Camp this summer and his Rangers just missed the playoffs this year. 

Eli Schuster / Sturgeon Bay 

Eli attended this year’s River Falls camp and the Northwoods Combine and will be playing tonight in Divison 5. 

Dakota Stroud / Manawa 

Dakota came to the 2023 Northwoods Combine and to our Green Bay & Rhinelander Camps last year.

Semi Finalist Campers

Gabe Golbach / D.C. Everest 

Gabe attened the Northwoods Kicking & Punting Combine in early March this past Spring up Rhinelander (under the dome). Gabe is a kicker and linebacker for the Evergreens who finished 7-2 and in second place in the Valley Conference. They’ll play  Neenah in WIAA Division 1.

Domanick Knott / G-E-T 

Domanick came to our La Crosse Kickers camp and participated in the Midwest K & P Championship. He’s the kicker and punter for the 4-5 Gale-Ettrick Trempealeau Red Hawks. They’ll be playing Stanley-Boyd in the Division 5 playoffs.

Sean West / Homestead 

Sean attened our West Bend Camp this summer and our Cedarburg camp in 2022. He is a triple threat player, as a kicker, punter and QB. His Homestead Highlanders are currently 8-1, North Shore Conference champions and playing against Pulaski tonight in WIAA Division 2.

Are you interested to be a nominee for the 2024 Stemke Award?
If you are a junior specialist this year and think that you should be considered for next year’s award — talk to your head coach at the end of this season about getting nominated.

Last year we also had 3 campers on the Stemke Top 20 list… Brian Bedolla (Appleton East), Isaiah Futch (Sparta) and Joey Xiya (Prairie du Chien). Last year’s winner was Caden Popp (Appleton North).
