Coaches, Kickers & Fans
This is the simple system that I have implemented in my own coaching to help high school teams win more games. It’s not conjecture, it’s just being smart by playinig the proper percentages in games. It works at all levels (high school, college and pro). The only thing that changes is knowing how successful your field goal unit it from various distances.
This is a portion of the talk that I gave to about 75 coaches at the 2023 Minnesota Coaches Football Association. It’s designed for coaches to understand and implement (especially because so many high school coaches are not well versed in the kicking game). However, it should be learned by young kickers (and their parents) if they desire to get more opportunities to kick in games.
We see so many campers who are all-conference level talent who get so few chances to kick field goals in games. Truly knowing your “targetline” in any environment is key to gaining your coaches trust.
